A new study highlights how Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) are using Mobile Health Units (MHUs) to reach communities facing barriers to traditional healthcare. The pilot program in Connecticut served 581 patients over 1,298 visits, providing primary care, preventive screenings, and enabling services while addressing transportation and trust challenges. The research shares practical lessons on patient engagement, operational planning, and care delivery for FQHCs and similar organizations looking to implement or expand mobile services. Findings suggest that MHU programs can strengthen community connections, improve access, and help hard-to-reach patients engage with ongoing, high-quality primary care.
